The Sacred Heart University women's lacrosse team extended their winning streak to five games this weekend when they defeated Robert Morris 15-9 and Saint Francis 18-2.

The two wins kept the Pioneers perfect on the season in the Northeast Conference.

"This is the first time ever that this team has had a record like this," said junior Meghan McCaffrey, "but we know not to take the other teams in the conference lightly."

Friday's game at Robert Morris produced a 10-goal second half for Sacred Heart. The Pioneers came out first with a goal from McCaffrey, but the Colonials answered back with four straight goals to lead 4-1 at the 18-minute mark.

Sacred Heart saw themselves being outshot 13-8 at the end of the first half and down by one goal.

"The defense stopped a lot of fast breaks during the second half," said senior Mary Montesarchio. "That really pumped up our attack to score some goals."

The Pioneers outscored Robert Morris 10-1 over the first 21 minutes of play in the second half. Senior Alyssa Harris scored two goals along with one goal from senior Liz Ottey.

"No matter what, it always begins with the offense and their patience and possession with the ball, and ends with the aggression of the defense," said Harris.

Pioneers junior Amanda Williams got an 8-meter goal at 21:06. The scoring continued for Sacred Heart with a pair of unassisted goals by senior Katie Salamone and three straight goals by Montesarchio.

Montesarchio's four goals and two assists put her over the 100-point mark for her career. Her two assists gave her 20 on the season, making a new school record for assists in a season.

"Montesarchio always does the little stuff for the team to make us successful," said Williams.

With a day off in between games, the Pioneers took the field again on Sunday against Saint Francis.

"Every week we focus on what we have to do to beat our next competitor," said McCaffrey. "We always have to focus on something different, because each new team we play has a different offense, defense, and transition.
