What is that?

Everyone at Sacred Heart has seen the large chapel construction, but what about the small one? The "mini chapel" is what it is known for. What is it? Why are they building it?
If you have ever asked yourself these questions you are not alone. Students all around the Sacred Heart campus have wondered what that mini chapel is.
"I have always wanted to know what that mini chapel was. It is just kind of there, and no one knows why," said sophomore Elizabeth Pena.
Many rumors about the mini chapel are going around the campus. Students on the campus have been questioning and talking about that mini chapel since it was first constructed.
One rumor that Pena heard is that the mini chapel was built because the constructors thought that actual chapel was going to sink. The mini chapel was built to see the future of the chapel and if at some point in the future it will sink.
"I walk by the mini chapel everyday that I have to go to work. And I always wanted to know what it was," said sophomore Lisa Paguaga. "I have heard many different things about what it could it be."
Another rumor is that they built it so it could be used as a bell tower.
"Most chapels or churches have a bell tower, so to me that is the most likely answer. A bell tower just makes sense," said Paguaga.
With all of these rumors flying around, what is the real reason to why the mini chapel was built?
The chapel is actually a "mock up" of the actual chapel, but not because they believe the chapel is going to sink. The mini chapel was built so the contractors can collaborate on ideas. The contractors have never worked together on a project of this complexity so they constructed a mock up to make sure they can install all of the different elements, such as steel, stone and limestone in the best way possible, according to Prof. David Coppola, AVP for Administration and professor of Religion.
The "mock up" chapel was a way to help the contractors identify any possible challenges and mistakes before the applying them to the real chapel.
"I guess that makes sense of what the mini chapel actually is," said Paguaga. "It is not what I thought, but it was a good idea for the school to do. Doing that will save them money and time by not having to start over if they mess up."
The mini chapel was built as a way for the contractors to combine their ideas and see what they would look like before they apply them to the actual chapel.
The mini chapel was built as a way to bring multiple ideas and visions together to help create and see the future finished product of the actual chapel.
And what's going to happen to the mini chapel after the construction is over? It will be dismantled and all of the elements that went into building it will be recycled. And a name for the actual chapel is yet to be decided.
"If you would like to make a significant donation, we would happily name it after you," said Coppola
