Spring Career Fair this Tuesday

Courtney Perlee Staff Reporter Sacred Heart University students from all majors will have the exclusive opportunity to meet and interview with more than 100 employers in the William H. Pitt Center from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19. The Office of Career Development is hosting the Spring 2008 Internship and Career Fair, open to Sacred Heart students and alumnus.

Program helps people cope with abortion

Abortion; the fears that come with this and the ways of healing through the eyes of Rachel's Vineyard Ministry. The presentation provided information Monday night about the ministry and the offerings for strengthening emotional breakdowns after experiencing an abortion.

Sorority brings Active Minds to campus

Last semester, the first Conn. chapter of Active Minds, an organization dedicated to raising awareness about mental health among college students, was launched at Sacred Heart University. "Young adults aged 18-24 have the highest prevalence of diagnosable forms of mental illness," according to Active Minds On Campus.

Chinese imports affecting what we eat and wear

Watch what you wear. In June of 2007, a Florida resident picked up a pair of "Sand-N-Sun" flip-flops from her local Wal-Mart store. After only a few times of wearing the flip-flops, she began to notice a painful rash on her feet along the line of the flip-flops.

Students are inspired to improve leadership skills

On Saturday Feb. 9 Sacred Heart University's 5th Annual Leadership Conference took place for the aspiring leaders on campus. The guest speaker this year was Tom Pesce, well known entertainer and Sacred Heart alumni. Each year the leadership conference is held in order to give students the opportunity to expand and improve on their leadership skills.

SHU is chosen as 'College of the Week'

It is your chance to be heard. During the week of Feb. 10 through Feb. 16, Sacred Heart University has been chosen as "College of the Week" by a youth political Web site called, YourThreeCents.com. During this week, the political voices of Sacred Heart students were highlighted for the Feb.

The rental market prices continue to increase

Planning to rent a house or apartment within the coming semesters? Due to market trends, students may end up spending much more money than they originally bargained for. "The rental market is generally a substitute for home ownership; that is higher rents encourage more home ownership, and higher home prices encourage more renting.

Drinking posters around campus causes reactions

Students have noticed posters with slogans about drinking on college campuses. These are the first in a series of "social norming" posters and they have been greeted with mixed reactions by the student body. "Social norming comes from the theory which is based on studies that show that most college students misinterpret their peers drinking habits, which they tend to exaggerate.
