He Said: Give the gift of love or heartbreak?

Let's get the record straight on this one. I hate Valentine's Day. It is the most overrated, pathetic and ridiculous excuse for people to be romantic with each other. I mean, is it really necessary to make a holiday about love? Sure, I'm a huge fan of love, but love is an individual thing that you discover on your own, not a mass holiday where people all over the world discover it together.
Maybe you think I'm just bitter because I'm currently single? It's a good thought and I appreciate the devil's advocate quality but even when I had a significant other I hated this damn holiday because of all the pressure that is placed upon us to make this holiday special.
You can plan the perfect evening, a romantic movie, an expensive dinner, and then some intimacy but something will go wrong and she'll get mad. Love is not fail-proof. It has its flaws and its weaknesses.
Real love is going to come from the heart. Many couples buy into the commercialism of Valentine's Day when the real romance is really hidden in a night inside, cuddling to a movie that makes you think, eating salty popcorn and wishing that this moment could never end, that is love.
I don't care what they say, I would take a moment with someone I really love over an object of their affection. Objects and materials grow to lose their value over time, whereas love, with the right ingredients, only gains in value. But there are going to be those people who think that love is a BMW. The love of another person is something immeasurable. Don't let something as silly as Valentine's Day ruin that concept for you. It's all a bunch of material bull. Madonna said it best, 'we are living in a material world.' Let's change that.
