Recently Sacred Heart has started an online publication for students and associates called the SFA Today. Its intention is to print articles of both relevance and interest to the school community.
The first article is based on Financial Aid. It teaches those who are eligible to apply how to do so and provides easy ways to manage their financial aid.
Julie Savino, Dean of Student Financial Assistance Dean Savino, said she is very pleased with the amount of progress the department has been making over the years.
"We currently process more than $72 million dollars in financial assistance to nearly 89% of our full-time undergraduate population. I do not say this to be self-congratulatory, but instead, to recognize both our obligation and opportunity to serve the financial needs of our students in a more substantial way," said Savino.
According to SFA Today, The Pell Grants are a good source for American citizens and may make one eligible for the Academic Competitive Grant or the SMART Grant along with Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant.
The Federal Perkins Loan allows students to borrow up to $3 thousand for if additional coverage is needed are the Stafford Loan Program. Along with these scholarships, "the students home state will have special programs available for local residents," said SFA Today.
Part time students are also eligible for financial aid so long as the student is taking six credits each semester.
All that's needed to get started is the completion of the FAFSA and University College Confidential Information Form. The SFA Today recommends that those applying for this financial aid as a part time student do so three months in advance.
There are also a number of sources of financial aid for graduate students as long as they are taking six credits. All that is necessary are filling out FAFSA papers, a Graduate Student Financial Assistance Confidential Information form and a trip up to Curtis Hall to a financial advisors office.
SHU Awards is a wed-based application new to financial aid, which allows you to view and manage your financial assistance information at your leisure. These new online innovations may be useful to those students who often stress about student loans.
If you would like to know more information on the different sources of financial aid or the new innovations, please visit SFA Today at the Sacred Heart website. There is much more information to be found that can be very useful to the students here at SHU.
