Opening on Feb. 14, "Definitely, Maybe" is being praised by critics for having just the right amount of laughs to accompany the love story line, and it opens just in time for a date Valentine's night.
"I think going to a romantic comedy for Valentine's Day is fun because most often they are made purely for enjoyment so it is not the type of movie that is real thought provoking," said sophomore Chrissy Pecoraro.
"The genre is also good because it offers a little bit of everything and the happy endings have you leaving the movie theater in a good mood."
"Definitely, Maybe" is about a young girl, Maya (Abigail Breslin), who, after her parents get divorced, wants to know all about how her father, Will (Ryan Reynolds), met and fell in love with her mother. Sparing her all of the inappropriate details he tells her about his past with a twist.
"I cannot wait for 'Definitely, Maybe' to come out," said senior Heather Carlson. "It looks like it is going to be cute without being overly sappy."
Will decides to change the names of his three serious girlfriends and Maya must try and figure out which one is her mother. Maya learns that love isn't always as easy as it seems but like with all love stories, a happy end may be in sight.
According to film critic Kyle Smith's Web site, "By placing its love story in a setting that's approximately as scuffed-up as reality, 'Definitely, Maybe' sparkles like diamonds."
If this does not seem like your kind of movie, "Fool's Gold" is also a new release. It is supposed to be a great combination of a love story and an action adventure but has not gone over as well with the critics.
"I do not decide off of what others think of the movie. I still want to go see it because it looks like it is going to be a funny action packed movie," said sophomore Ryan Cordova.
"Fool's Gold" is about a surfer bum-treasure hunter (Mathew McConaughey) who is determined to find the treasure of the Queens Dowry, which was lost in 1715. Despite having problems with his wife, (Kate Hudson), he is able to coerce her into joining him due to her inability to resist the opportunity for adventure. After using his charm to get the final information he needed, the hunt turns into a race when their archrival decides that he wants the treasure too.
"Mathew McConaughey and Kate Hudson had really great on screen chemistry in 'How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,' I am interested to see if the two will play well off each other in this movie as well," said Carlson.
There are also discounted movie tickets available in Student Life for six dollars.
Of course you could always just stay in and watch any of these student favorites like "Hitch," "Pretty Woman," "You've Got Mail," "50 First Dates," or "Love Actually."
Whatever the night may bring, the most important thing is to spend it with someone you love.
