On Feb. 1, Happy Madison Production released their new film "Strange Wilderness."
Happy Madison is the same production studio that brought us entertaining films such as "The Hot Chick," "Little Nicky," "Click" and "Grandma's Boy."?????
"I think that it looks awesome. From watching the trailer, the movie looks hilarious, and the acting looks well done," said sophomore John Ietto. "The scenery makes you feel like you're actually there. I can't wait to see it."
"Strange Wilderness" is about a TV show that gets passed down from a legendary wilderness host to his deadbeat son, Peter Gaulke, played by 'Rescue Dawn's' Steve Zahn.?????
The wilderness show had been in a severe ratings decline for the past two years, and when Gaulke is informed that it will be cut from it's 3 a.m. slot if the numbers do not improve in the next two weeks, he decides something drastic needs to be done.?????
When pictures of Bigfoot are brought to Gaulke by an old friend of his father's, Bill Calhoun (Joe Don Baker), Gaulke sees this as the episode that will bring his show back up on the ratings.????
The story then follows Gaulke and his group of misfit friends, including Allen Covert ("Grandma's Boy"), Jonah Hill ("Superbad"), Justin Long ("Accepted"), Kevin Heffernan ("Beerfest"), and Ashley Scott ('The Kingdom'), as they travel to the Andes and encounter a series of typical events along the way. ?????????
"I thought that there was really no moral value to the script and everything just seemed thrown together," said sophomore Parvin Ghazian. "I usually really like movies produced by Happy Madison, like "Deuce Bigalow" and "50 First Dates" but this just didn't compare."
According to "Saturday Night Live" writer's, Steve Gaulke and Fred Wolf, most of the script became improvisation throughout production, which changed some of the story line from beginning to end. ?????
"After what I've heard about it ["Strange Wilderness"] and after reading a few reviews on it, and every one of them being awful, I don't think I'm going to see the movie at all. I saw "Meet the Spartans", and this movie was compared to being just as stupid, if not even worse, so that right there made up my mind," said junior Amanda St. Bernard. ?????
In a poll offered by boxofficemojo.com, when asked if they were going to see "Strange Wilderness", 55 percent said 'never', 23 percent said 'On DVD', nine percent said 'in theaters', six percent said 'on TV', and the final five percent said 'opening weekend.'
