Feeling unmotivated? Help is on the way. Students find motivation after a five week winter vacation.
Contrary to the common belief that college students are lazy and unmotivated, many Sacred Heart students are buckling down to their schoolwork this semester.
What gets you back into the schedule of a new school semester?
"My friends," said sophomore Julia LaRosa. "A group of us went to Staples before school started and we bought a bunch of supplies. It makes it a lot easier to do work when you know that all of your friends are doing the same."
Whether it involves hanging out with friends at a party or doing work with classmates within a study group, student encouragement helps many to stay focused. Others, however, obtain a more personal type of incentive.
"I want to keep myself motivated in all aspects of my life, and I feel that diligence begins in the classroom," said senior Tommy Sands.
After almost sixteen years of schooling, Sands holds a mature sense of self- discipline, which will be a useful tool for graduate school. "I want to stand out amongst the crowd so I am recognized for my skills," said Sands.
Sick of being poor? Students use money as another motivator. One's future potential salary is an inspirational device that ranks highly in students' minds.
Additionally, the soaring price of tuition alone is enough to keep students focused on their studies. Nobody wants to get a phone call from mom and dad discussing the hundreds of thousands of dollars that are being wasted on failing grades.
Aside from peer support, the threat of rejection from graduate school, and financial worries, keeping busy can also improve one's motivation to succeed. Having a packed schedule forces a student to stay organized and construct countless to-do lists.
"As a senior my last semester is bittersweet. The unknown is scary but making real money will be nice for a change. I will definitely miss college and everything that comes with it," said senior Bridget McGowan.
No matter what distractions come and go through students lives this upcoming semester, remember the simple fact of why we are all here in the first place and try to stay as motivated as possible.
