On Tuesday, Dec. 4, journalist Lisa Ling came to speak at the Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts at Sacred Heart University. Ling's discussion began promptly at 7 p.m. and was filled with background about her own life experiences. She discussed the obstacles she encountered and the great successes she experienced as a result.
On Dec. 4 the Sacred Heart field hockey team held a bone marrow donor drive in at the William H. Pitt Center in a class room across from athletic training. The drive lasted from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and was held for Nicole Nelson, a close friend of head field hockey coach Chris Blais.
On Tuesday, Nov. 27, the Sacred Heart School of Education was dedicated to and named for Isabelle Farrington, a long-time benefactor to Sacred Heart University. Farrington, according to a press release, was awarded an honorary degree by Sacred Heart in 1997 and spent her life teaching elementary school, among other jobs.
Swipe for the Hungry is a program that calls for students to use their meal card at any FLIK register. Donations can be made in $5 increments for the program running until Dec. 15. All donations are given to soup kitchens in Bridgeport to help finance the cost of food.
On Thursday Nov. 29 approximately 35 MBA students participated in the first ever case competition. The students involved were among those in the organization management class taught by Dr. Jill Woodilla and Professor Stephen Koch. In an MBA management class, a case is usually about a real company or manager that has one or more problems or issues.
Is religion and science, like oil and water? For hundreds of years it was believed that these two terms were contradictory of each other. People viewed them as complete opposites with nothing in common. In an effort to spread his ideas and promote his latest book, "God's Mechanics - How Scientists & Engineers Make Sense of Religion," Brother Guy Consolmagno, Vatican Astronomer at the Vatican Observatory, shared his beliefs about the connections that link science to religion.
The Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) has recently announced that Sacred Heart was chosen as one of 23 institutions to participate in the national initiative, Core Commitments: Educating Students for Personal and Social Responsibility.
