On Sunday, Sacred Heart had its home opener against SUNY Binghamton, easily defeating the Bearcats 70-52. The Pioneers controlled the tempo of the game and avoided an ugly 0-4 start. Sacred Heart never trailed the Bearcats, shooting 50.0% (24-48) from the field.

Kaitlin Sowlinski had another great game, pouring in 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field and 6-of-9 from the free throw stripe. She also contributed three blocks and four rebounds. Freshman Maggie Cosgrove had her best performance of her young Sacred Heart career, scoring 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting from behind the three point line and adding seven rebounds.

On Monday, Cosgrove was rewarded for her strong play by being named the Choice Hotels Northeast Conference Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week. Cosgrove is the first rookie to win the award since Amanda Pape in the 2003-2004 season.

Three times during the course of the game Binghamton cut the lead to just one point, but they were never able to catch Sacred Heart or take a lead. Binghamton shot just 20.0% from beyond the three point arc, while the Pioneers shot a productive 45.0%. Sacred Heart had 24 points off of turnovers, while Binghamton was able to convert for just nine points on turnovers.

Sacred Heart showed off just how dangerous it can be, ripping off a 13-2 run over the course of five minutes early in the 2nd half after the Bearcats had cut the lead to 32-31. The Pioneers outscored Binghamton 38-23 in the 2nd half of play.

On November 18, the women's basketball team lost a heartbreaker to Fairfield University. After erasing an 11 point halftime deficit, the Pioneers came up just short, losing 58-56 at the Arena at Harbor Yard. This was the first meeting between the Pioneers and Stags since the 1980-1981 season.

Sacred Heart did not have an effective first 20 minutes of basketball, which forced them to play from behind for most of the game. Fairfield out rebounded Sacred Heart 22-13 in the first half, including 13 offensive rebounds which led to 16 second chance points.

The Pioneers played much better in the second half, cutting the lead to one point at 47-46 with five minutes to play. Sacred Heart teased the Pioneer fans for much of the last few minutes, seeming as if they would tie the game or take the lead at any moment. That moment however, never came. The Pioneers' last opportunity came with just one second left on the clock, when they tried a full court pass which was knocked away.
