Life is a beach, even when it is cold outside. If you are missing the summer, it is easy to beat your winter blues at the Beach Cafe, which is located on 2070 Post Road in downtown Fairfield.
Although the only view from this beach house is the Post Road, it does not take away the summer feeling you get when you walk inside.
This is not the type of place that I would recommend wearing your bathing suit and flip-flops too. This restaurant is classier than you may think.
Serving mainly seafood as their specialty this quaint restaurant serves brunch, lunch and dinner. On my first visit, I ordered the Rhode Island style fried calamari for my appetizer. This was different than a traditional calamari because it was served with spicy pickled cherry peppers. Make sure to order a large water on the side.
For my meal, I ordered the grilled salmon. It was served with sun-dried tomatoes and was over spinach. I am a big fan of salmon, but with a price of $21.95 I would definitely say that it was bit expensive, considering that salad, soup or bread was not even offered.
I was very impressed with the presentation of my meal and also how quickly I was served. The service was excellent and there were at least three different waiters at my table to bring out my food and to make sure everything was perfect. The staff seemed very eager to make sure I was happy and enjoying my experience at their restaurant.
There is also an extensive wine list that was even longer than the actual food menu. You can order a variety of red or white wines by either the bottle or the glass. They also serve beer on draft or bottles and beach themed cocktails with names like Beach Bum and Sound Beach Cosmo. There is also a large bar area so that you can enjoy a drink away from the dining area.
The atmosphere of the Beach Cafe will definitely give you a warm feeling inside even in the chill of winter. I felt as if I was in a summer cottage along the shoreline. The walls were painted in bright colors, such as yellow, blue and mint green. The walls displayed pictures of fish and instead of flowers on each table, there were small vases with sand and seashells inside.
After spending just a few minutes here you will forget that you are still in the cold state of Connecticut.
On Friday and Saturday nights the Beach Cafe also offers live music, which is played by local musicians.
I came for dinner on a Tuesday night so I missed the entertainment, but I can definitely see myself coming back to relax with a drink and listen to some tunes.
So, if you are not ready to start singing jingle bells yet and you are craving a taste of summer, go dine at the Beach Cafe. It is definitely worth the extra dollar for a piece of sunshine, even if it's indoors.

Until next week, happy dining.
