Become ONE of them.

The Sacred Heart community has recently become an active member in the ONE Campus Challenge campaign.

Launched to help raise awareness among students about extreme poverty and disease in the world, the campaign strives to gain student activists.

"The campaign gets its name from the fact that one person dies every three seconds from extreme poverty, disease, and AIDS, many of which could have easily been prevented," said sophomore and chapter president Mike Fazzino.

It's main focus is to raise awareness of the tragedies going on in the world and lobby for the government to make the necessary changes that need to be made, Fazzino said.

Being a part of ONE, students are able to see that they can help make a difference in the world.

The ONE campaign brings awareness to the fact that one individual can make a difference in the lives of thousands, and that we are all connected to each other and have a moral duty to help our neighbors, said freshman and chapter vice-president Amanda Francini.

"Our generation has the power to rise up as ONE in working towards abolishing poverty. Sacred Heart University is doing just that."

To promote the campaign, members hold weekly meetings, post signs around campus, sport ONE paraphernalia, and have the university sports teams promoting the campaign at their games.

such as poverty, AIDS, and other diseases. All topics are things that can easily be prevented-with a little help. The letters were sent to congress and some of the nation's senators-notably Joe Lieberman.

"It is important to realize that ONE is non-partisan and these are global issues that we need to work together to change and focus on," said Fazzino.

The ONE campaign is active in almost every aspect of the Sacred Heart community.

Currently, the ONE campaign has been met with outstanding support from virtually every organization on campus.

Most notably Student Government, the Senate, Student Events Team, Greek Life, Residential Life, and the Athletic Departments, Fazzino said.

"We have programs in every corner of the SHU community, from Athletics, Campus Relations, Public Relations, Advertising, and Community Service that are sparking up. You can see us everywhere. Look for the white wristbands."
