This was Bike's response after his team's 64-49 defeat against Army was a bit surprising, yet truthful.
"Today we had two loses, one against Army and the other against the game of basketball," said Coach Dave Bike.
In the first half, the Pioneers had a 34.5% FG percentage. They even shot just 25 percent from downtown.
The team was performing with great force at the very beginning when sophomores Chauncey Hardy and Corey Hassan sunk two early three-pointers. The team started to dwindle when they found themselves at 28-24 by intermission.
Sophomore Ryan Litke was on fire in the first half with 12 points scoring 3-4 FG's and 2-3 three-pointers. Junior Howard Ryan led the team in rebounds in the first half with one offensive rebound and three defensive rebounds. The total amount of rebounds in the first half was 16 for the Pioneers.
"We played hard and worked together strong. We just need to start working hard to fix certain things," said senior Brice Brooks.
On the other side, Army was 11 for 25 in FG's and 4-14 in three-pointers in the first half.
Army's Jarell Brown played an all around great game for the Black Knights with a game high of 29 points. In the first half he scored 17 points with four successful FG's three successful three-pointers. He finished the game up with another 12 points in the second half. At the end of the game, Brown made 9-16 FG's and 6-12 three-pointers. Overall Brown had the most rebounds for Army with six defensive rebounds along with teammate Corban Bates who also had six rebounds.
"One thing we need to start fixing is our rebounds," said Brooks.
Army outplayed Sacred Heart with rebounds with their 39 total rebounds. Sacred Heart had 28.
Overall Litke really led the team on offense Monday night while scoring 4-7 in FG's and 2-5 in three pointes. Brooks held the team in free throws making 3-4. Senior Drew Shubik stepped it up defensively leading the team in rebounds, one offensive rebound, and four defensive rebounds.
"I know the fans had high expectations for this game, I just wish we could have performed better," said Shubik.
At the end of the game, the Pioneer's FG percentage was 36.2% with 17-47. Their 3FG percentage was 18.2& with 4-22. Along with free throws, Sacred Heart scored 24 points in the first half and 25 in the second with an overall score of 49.
"We're not going to win many games with 49 points," said Bike.
The next game for the Pioneers is on Sunday against Fairfield at the Arena at Harbor Yard.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m or slightly after the women's conclusion.
