It's that time of year again. The holiday season has crept up on us once again. Last week I was munching on Halloween candy and this week I'm drinking my Starbucks out of a red cup with snowmen on it.
With Thanksgiving just around the corner, finals will be upon us in moments and Christmas will come and go.
Since this time of year can pass us by so suddenly, it is important to make the most of it while it lasts. Despite the fact that this season can carry some stress with it, it is important to keep in mind what is truly important. Therefore, in order to help you maximize your holiday season, I will share with you some ways to make this experience a memorable and special one.
Spend time with family. For some students, this is the first time they are going to be heading home for the holidays. For others, this transition has become a habit. However, I'm not sure that anyone ever gets fully used to making the switch. Naturally, you have undergone some changes since your last trip home. And this can cause some conflict.
However, although re-entering this environment after being away at school for almost three months can get chaotic, still make an honest effort to enjoy this time with your family.
Unfortunately, before we are able to enjoy this time spent with loved ones, we have to take care of some business first. As much as this season can be a relaxing and enjoyable time, it can also be a stressful one too. As students, we must first endure finals before we are free to depart on our winter vacation. However, the work doesn't stop there. We must then confront the crowded malls and stores in order to get our Christmas shopping done.
Shop smart. Even though this can be a daunting task, don't let it deflate your holiday spirit. Find ways to minimize the anxiety of holiday gift giving. Start early to avoid the crowds. Shop online. Either way, remember that buying presents is only a small aspect of the holidays and try to concentrate more the other things like family and friends.
