The Sacred Heart men's soccer team fell short to Dartmouth in their third game of the season on Friday. With a final score of 2-0, Dartmouth beat the Pioneers in the first round of the Yale Invitational Tournament that was held at Yale University in New Haven.

Craig Henderson of Dartmouth scored the first goal in the 21st minute of play. At halftime the score still remained 1-0 with the Big Green leading the Pioneers. Matt Jones was strong in goal with four saves in the first half of play.

The score remained 1-0 until the 60th minute when Dartmouth's Matt Carroll connected with Andrew Olsen to record the second goal of the match.

"I feel if we play together, practice hard, and work for each other then there will be nothing but success in our season," said Luke Gagliardi, Junior, North Branford.

Dartmouth (1-1) recorded a win over Sacred Heart (1-2) in the first round of the Yale Invitational. Goalie Matt Jones finished the game with a total of five saves while Ricarti Mendes and Brice Victor had two shots on goal each.

A new formation has been put into effect to produce a more offensive game instead of relying solely on the defense. In Friday's game the team had not yet adjusted in order to get faster and have more touches in every game.

The Pioneer's second appearance at the invitational on Sunday had a much better result, as the Pioneers upset the Yale Bulldogs with a score of 1-0. The only goal of the game was scored when freshman Lusiano Dadario centered the ball to senior Ricarti Mendes who headed it into the goal past the Yale goalkeeper.

"We have been practicing a new formation, but it did not work as we thought it would, so coach switched back to our old formation where everybody is more comfortable and knows what to do," said Jesper Fredriksson, sophomore, Gothenburg, Sweden.

Sunday's win against Yale evened the Pioneer's record at 2-2. Sacred Heart out shot the Bulldog's 13-10, while goalie Matt Jones had three saves in the game. Three players were awarded the all-tournament recognition at the Yale Invitational Tournament. Mendes, Anthony Anzevui, and Fredriksson all earned this honor for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers welcome a new class of freshman to the team that is expected to contribute throughout the season. The team has been adjusting well to each other and will continue working hard to strengthen their skills on and off the field.

"We go in with the thought that we are going to win every game. It felt good, as we were playing well and winning too. Everyone worked and that was what made us win the game," said Fredriksson
