Outtakes, formerly known as the SHU Market place, offers students fresh Starbucks coffee and tea, hot food, frozen entrees, organic snacks, and its own name brand products at a convenient location. It is open on weekdays from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., while on the weekends it is open from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
"The size is the biggest change, [and there is now] more variety, [and] Starbucks coffee," said Daniel Recinos, Outtakes cashier, about the revamping.
The larger size allows for easier student flow and lessens the congestion when navigating around the store. Plus the warm colors and low lights play up the coffee house feeling. The new look meets the approval of many of the students who were here before the makeover.
"Outtakes looks so much nicer than the market did, the extra space is amazing and I like how many new things there are in the market," said Jennifer Spinelli, senior, Smyrna, NY. .
Another major change is that only cash and campus cards are acceptable modes of payment; credit cards and debit cards are no longer accepted. This is primarily because certain items are discounted when using the campus card.
The new market place has two registers instead of just one which may dissolve the crowding problem the area usually faces.
"It may be helpful if they have more than the two registers to deal with heavy volume times better," said Spinelli.
Since being refurbished, Outtakes has not only doubled in size but it has extended its selection so now there is a wider variety of food to choose from. It has its own brand name of fresh sandwiches and salads made daily.
"We have chefs that actually make it[the brand name food], just for Outtakes," said John Angelo, Outtakes cashier.
A part of the FLIK franchise, Outtakes offers more than the original Market place. Other than the usual toasted bagels and hot soups, students can find pizza and other different foods being served.
Produce will also be a new addition. Instead of waiting to catch the shuttle, students, will be able to purchase fresh vegetables and fruit.
