The Sacred Heart Men's Lacrosse team lost to Quinnipiac on Saturday when QU's Mike Stottler ended the game with a last minute shot in overtime. Just as the overtime horn sounded, Stottler scored a game winning goal, ending the OT battle at 10-9 for the Bobcats. Both teams had many chances to score but were marred by turnovers, almost sending the game into double over-time. With no time left in OT, Stottler picked up a loose ball to end the game

"We're all heartbroken," say's sophomore midfielder Bobby Rushton, of West Islip, NY. "We let up at a crucial time."

After a scoreless second period, the Pioneers got three goals in the third; including two unassisted shots from Sophomore Bobby Karl, of Clifton Park, NY, who, along with Rushton, helped the Pioneers break away from the 6-3 deficit created in the first half.

The Pioneers took control early in game, creating a 3-1 lead with a goal by senior Rory Morse, of East Falmouth, MA, followed by a goal from Rushton. However, the Pioneers had a tough time keeping up with the Bobcat's offense, and managed to squeeze off only three shots for the remainder of the first half.

"We were on the defensive too much," says Rushton. "We didn't make any progress."

Stottler got QU on the board early in the second quarter, and the Bobcats followed with four straight, goals, ending the Pioneers lead. The Pioneers were able to rally in the second half, with a pair of hard shots by Karl, tying the game 6-6.

SHU almost took it in the fourth when Karl took a pass from Peter Greco, of Hamburg, NY, and ripped it for 9-8 lead, but Bobcat Tucker Prudden scored late in the fourth, sending the game into overtime.

The Pioneers faced off against Hofstra last week, where they fell short to the Pride 10-8. The Pioneers had a trying time in the fourth, being backed into a corner by the Pride, who limited SHU to just four attempted shots and caused a series of turnovers which helped Hofstra take the Colonial Athletic Association win. This is the Pioneers third consecutive lose of a CAA contest.

The Pioneers will face off against The University of Delaware Saturday in Delaware at 7:00 p.m.
