If you could go back in time and think about what you wish you knew as a freshman, what would it be?
Would you change your roommates, dorm life, your decision to go here or nothing at all? As yet another school year winds down students begin thinking about their time here at SHU.
Whether you've had a good experience or not, there always seems to be something you wish you did differently or realized earlier. When it comes to the admissions process there are some things that maybe students weren't aware of before enrolling here are SHU.
"I wish I knew there was such a large amount of people that go here from New York and New Jersey. I wish I knew the New York and New Jersey mentality. It is a different mentality then anywhere else in the country, and it is something I wasn't used too," said Jason Hey, junior, Falmonth, Mass.
Being from New Jersey myself it is hard to understand how our mentality is different. However, I realize it's just how we may feel about the mentality of New Englanders because we were both brought up on very different parts of the East coast. People of course are different, that's all part of the college experience. We live with and go to class with people that may be the complete opposite from what we have ever known.
Besides the different backgrounds, there are certain things about SHU that some students were just unaware of as a freshman. They now feel they could have benefited from them if they had only known a few things.
"If I could go back to freshman year with what I know now, I would have bought the device that really helped out my suite. It was something that enabled us to see right in the front of the door to see when the R.A.'s were keying into the suites to do their rounds. It saved us from at least a million write-ups," said Ian Garrison, junior, Carmel, N.Y.
Getting written up too many times weren't the only regrets students had. When it comes to the cafeteria, some people love the food and some people well hate it. And what about the meal cards we have to use to eat this food? Some students were unaware how the system works and were never even told about it, they had to figure it out themselves.
"I wish I knew they charged and extra 200 dollars when you purchase a meal plan versus dining for dollars," said Hey.
However, in some cases students are very satisfied with their SHU experience.
"Sacred Heart met all my expectations I just wish I knew how fast the years really go by because it's already the end of junior year and before we know it college is going to be over," said Danna Taylor, junior, Staten Island, N.Y.
When it comes to college its sort of along the same lines as the "love the one your with" saying. Make the best out of where you are and learn from your mistakes but we all can't help but "wish" from time to time.
