The Final Four Awards" is a longstanding tradition at Sacred Heart. It gives students the opportunity to elect four members of the SHU community who they feel were particularly passionate, dedicated, and enthusiastic in their efforts to better the Sacred Heart community.

The award also gives dedicated faculty members a chance to be recognized for their perseverance and commitment that is sometimes understated. There are four categories for which awards are given.

The first award, called The Dr. Marian Calabrese Outstanding Faculty Award, is given to honor a faculty member who has an engaging teaching style, positive attitude and has gone above and beyond expectations. Some of the previous winners of this award include Jane Carlin, Dr. Shirley Pavone, Dr. James Castonguay, and Mark Jereb, winner of last year's "Final Four Awards."

The Outstanding Graduate Assistant Award honors graduate assistants for their passion and dedication in advising and/or coaching. The award is given in effort to recognize those individuals that make up the fiber of the Sacred Heart Community. Past recipients of this award are Jacinda Felix, Rachael Wonderlich, Amy Ricci and Kathleen Haughey.

The award given to nominees is the Outstanding Administrator Award, students pick an administrator who has guided them or made a positive impact on their lives. The award is made to honor those administrators who express concern and dedication to student life. Jane Sanders was last year's award winner.

The Outstanding Staff Award goes to members of the university whose drive and enthusiasm often go without mention. The award goes to the staff member who has done the most to help students with their concerns. Last year's winner was Jimmie Lucky.

Kathleen Haughey, recipient of last year's Outstanding Graduate Assistant Award and previous Operations Assistant for the Student Union said, "The Final Four Awards means so much to me. I spent my two years as a grad assistant trying to make a difference, even if it was just for one student."
