Men's volleyball tacks another loss onto their record, as they fell to NYU. The Pioneers played the NYU Violets on Saturday, in their previous match against NYU they lost. In the first game every point they scored was due to kills.

The top three hitters in game one were Senior Mike Ivers, Sophomore Barry Smith, and Freshman Kalani Efstathiou. The Pioneers lost the first game 30-22.

"We got down early and found ourselves fighting an uphill battle.  Again our senior leadership and strong underclassmen contingent played tough in crunch time, we just came up a little short in the end," said coach CJ Emanuelson.

In the second game they had longer rallies and better ball placement. Many of the points were scored by tips into the center of the court.

After a solo block from Efstathiou at 20-26, NYU leading, freshman Scott Grandpre tipped a ball into the center of the court. Giving the Pioneers two more points and closing the gap to 22-26.

They continued to close the gap, but lost game two, 30-24.

Game three seemed like it would be a win from the start with the first play being a kill from Smith out of the back row.

Smith took his approach from behind the ten-foot-line and hit, what looked like, a high ball to the middle set by Breen. Everyone on the court got, at least, one kill in during the third game.

Smith dug the ball to Yantz who set the ball back to Smith for the kill. The rally seemed as though it was the turning point of the game. At 14-21, NYU in the lead, Rosa served an ace, which would be the real turn around play of the game.

The players on the bench got excited, followed by a roar from the crowd. Following the ace was a triple block from Ivers, Smith, and Breen gaining them another point. Then they went onto gain three more consecutive points.

Two of them being kills from Ivers. With the Pioneers down 22-27, they were not letting NYU take the game, but after a couple serving errors the score was 26-29.

They almost won the game when their point streak closed the gap to 28-29, but they lost when the ball was served into the net on game point. NYU won 30-28.

They will play New Haven at home on March 29, 2007. The match will be held in the Pitt Center on the center court.
