Last week, the brothers of Alpha Sigma Psi hosted the Alpha in a skirt fundraiser.

Fundraising for Alpha in a Skirt started on Monday March 19 and continued through Thursday March 22.

"The fundraiser is simple, people come by our table and donate a dollar on the brother they would like see wear a skirt the most," said Matthew Tarro, Junior, Pawtucket, R.I.

"The brother with the most donations at the end of allotted time for fundraising has to wear a skirt on campus all day," said Tarro.

Several brothers sat outside of Flik from 12 p.m.-5 p.m. each day promoting and collecting contributions.

It cost $1 to participate. By contributing more than $1 helped cause the most favored brother of Alpha Sigma Psi to wear a skirt for one day.

If the brothers raised a $1,000 or more, all 20 brothers would wear a woman's skirt on Monday March 26.

"A good portion of our proceeds will go to CAP week. This is a week we have set aside in April where we spend a great deal of time working with the kids in Bridgeport," said Tarro.

The outcome of CAP week is to help improve the domestic conditions of inner city Bridgeport, while tackling such issues as child abuse and poverty.

Alpha Sigma Psi is hosting several speakers to talk about the issues affecting not only the Bridgeport community, but the country.

John Alexander will be wearing a skirt around campus on Monday March 26.

"It's probably the strangest honor of my life, but I guess it says something for the friends I have made since coming to this school. Its kind of funny so many people would pay to see me do this," said John Alexander, sophomore, Montville, N.J.

"I don't know too many other guys who you're ever going to see in a skirt; so this is a one time deal but at least I can laugh at myself. There's no hiding from the people of Sacred Heart though," said Alexander.

"A few girls I'm close with offered private skirt modeling, so I'm hoping to have fun with that and find something I can pull off for a whole day," said Alexander.

Alpha Sigma raised over $500 for CAP week.

"Being able to work this week really helps everyone in the fraternity and everyone on campus to see what's going on right under our noses in Bridgeport," said Tarro.

"I'm glad we were able to raise a nice amount of money since it goes towards less fortunate kids. I can't say that I'm happy about the skirt deal, but if that's what I have to do to help out some kids in need I don't mind too much," said Alexander.

"Alpha Sigma Psi are my brothers for life and I'm here to help out," said Alexander.

According to the President of Alpha Sigma Psi the brothers have also participated in such fundraisers as selling chocolate hearts outside of Flik for Valentines Day and will be participating in the MS walk on April 1.
