Last Wednesday night the Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts was turned into a hip-hop arena as Omega Phi Kappa and Delta Phi Kappa kicked it up a notch by steppin', strollin' and spittin' beats.

Monica Concha and John Okolowitcz were the masters of ceremonies of the Phi Kappa Family Showcase.

"The Delta Phi Kappa and Omega Phi Kappa Showcase brings dancers, singers, and many other performers together for one night of non-stop entertainment," said Concha, senior, West Babylon, N.Y. "This was the Phi Kappa Family's second showcase and we worked extremely hard to put together a show for everyone to enjoy."

The Dance Team and SHU Force kicked off the festivities. Both teams made separate, but phenomenal appearances. Each performed various dance styles in rhythm to a collabortion of hip-hop and pop songs.

"The Phi Kappa Family Showcase gave us the ability to showcase a whole bunch of new talent that we couldn't do last semester," said Lisa Cavalli, Advertising Chair for SHU Force, junior, West Babylon, N.Y.

"We were excited to see the crowd's response. It helped us to prepare for our Send Off to Nationals Dance Team Exhibition April 1," said Kelly Brooks, junior, West Babylon, N.Y.

Physha P, a duo group, featuring junior Arman Dixon, truly took it to another level when they brought out pep-band members and their instruments. A drum set, bass saxophones, trumpets and dancers enhanced the atmosphere and caused the students to cheer them on as the group rapped to their original beats performed by the featured musicians.

"Omega Phi Kappa demonstrated tonight that we are active members of the SHU community," said Dixon, junior, Beacon N.Y. "Events like the Phi Kappa Family Showcase need to keep happening at our school."

Capping off the evening, Delta Phi Kappa and Omega Phi Kappa each did their own stepping performance that made the theatre echo to a triumphant beat.

The audience really came alive as each performer captured attention with their amazing stage presence.

"The whole show was an amazing collaboration and I think the students really enjoyed it," said Aisha Lubin, senior, Brockton, Mass.

"This was a great success to see all of SHU here. The Phi Kappa Family Showcase definitely brought our school together for one night," said Paul Elumeze, graduate student, Bronx, N.Y. "It was good to see brothers coming up the ranks and getting involved in Omega Phi Kappa and in school functions. I am truly proud of my gentlemen."

The showcase not only gave the Greeks an opportunity to show the school their talents, but their spirit truely brought the school community a sense of 'family.'
