The Sacred Heart women's ice hockey team took on the Rhode Island Rams this past Saturday, February 17, for their senior game. The Rams provided little competition, as the Pioneers skated to an easy 9-1 win.

Leading the way for the Pioneers was Brittany Rosselle, a freshman from Pawling N.Y., who scored two goals.

The Pioneers out shot the Rams 48-16 and senior Stephanie Boulay of Anchorage Ala., made 15 saves in her final home game of the year.

Rhode Island's only lead came in the first period when the jumped out to an early 1-0 lead. Yet the Pioneers answered when sophomore Gina Arnone of Bridgewater, N.J. and Rosselle worked together to give the Pioneers the lead.

Arnone sent a perfect pass to Rosselle who tipped the puck into the net to give the pioneers their first goal and tie up the game at 1-1. Arnone then proceeded to slip a quick wrist shot past the Rams, into their goal, to bring the pioneers up to a 2-1 lead.

During the second period, the Pioneers scored six goals to push ahead of the Rams for good.

Michelle Panella, a senior from Marlboro N.J., scored with approximately five minutes left to continue the Pioneers' push for the lead at 3-1. Junior Devon Gaslin, a native of Augusta, Maine, scored another goal for the Pioneers, with feeds from Arnone and Rosselle, to boost their lead to 4-1.

With 8:35 left in the second Rosselle scored her second goal of the game and boosted the Pioneers lead even more to 5-1.

In the third period the Pioneers scored one last goal by freshman Jenn Bragger of East Greenwich, R.I. She deflected a pass from Arnone to end the game at 9-1.

The Pioneers travel to South Burlington, Vt. this Saturday, February 24, for the ECAC Open Tournament.
