The Pioneers made short work of Mercyhurst this weekend in a 4-2 sweep. The Pioneers' tight defense kept the Lakers against the wall, clenching their second win in this weekend's series against Mercyhurst.

Sacred Heart started at the 7:48 mark with a goal by Kalen Wright, of Candle Lake, Saskatchewan. Dave Jarman, of Toronto, Ontario fired a shot to Mercyhurst goaltender Jordan Wakefield. Wakefield deflected the puck, only for it to be swept up by Wright, who ripped a hard shot past the Laker goalie, which was Wright's first goal of the season.

Mercy got on the board with 9:19 left in the period to tie the score. Matt Fennel sent the puck to Cullen Eddy who ripped a shot to the cross bar that bounced into the net.

The Pioneers regained there lead at the 7:09 mark with a shot from Dave Jarman, his seventh goal of the season. Eric Giosa, of Northville, Mich., sent a pass to Jarman from the face-off circle, who blasted a high shot just past goaltender Jordan Wakefield's shoulder.

Senior Kyle Gourgon tied the game again with 2:09 left in the period; however this was as far as Mercyhurst would get against Pioneer goaltender Stefan Drew, of Dugland, Manitoba, who made 31 saves. Ryan Toomey carried the puck down the left. When defenseman Paul Ferraro of Pleasantville, N.Y., fell down, Toomey capitalized sending the puck to Gourgon who sent it past Drew for the Lakers second and last goal of the night.

SHU went on to score two more goals in the third period, including a shot by Pierre-Luc O'Brien, of Nicolet, Quebec, who scored his 66th career goal, a record for SHU. With 10:25 left in the third, Jarman ripped a shot past Wakefield for the game winning goal.

The Pioneers had a relentless defense, diffusing Mercyhurst's attempts in seven chances, despite the Lakers man advantage. The Pioneers out shot the Lakers 38-33.

The Pioneers will face-off against Holy Cross next weekend in a home and home series. The series will begin Friday night in Worcester, Mass. and conclude Saturday in Milford. The game will take place at Hart Center at 7:00 p.m..
