WHRT, 91.5 is the campus' very own student-run radio station and is something that you probably walk by at least a few times a day on your way to class.
The station is located on campus across from Flik and can be heard throughout the halls of the academic building. WHRT can also be heard on channel six and the station will soon be streamed online.
Not only does WHRT broadcast from the station, but they can also be found at some campus events, for example, pub nights.
"WHRT has even deejayed events such as midnight volleyball and freshman move in," said Holly Finneran, junior, Glen Ridge, N.J.
WHRT, allows the disc jockeys to become more familiar with radio production skills and is open to any student to have their own show. It is especially a good experience for those who want to have a career in radio production.
Each deejay is given a two-hour time slot to play whatever music they choose, although the majority of it is Punk and Indie music. Some of the Deejays even host talk-radio shows.
While they can play anything they want and talk about any topic, it has to be censored, therefore no cursing is allowed.
Two DJs, Meghan Strecker and Emily Lupica, have a show called the "Em and M show."
"My friend Emily and I play a variety of music, sometimes we play show tunes, sometimes we play classic rock, and sometimes we play random, funny music," said Strecker, senior, Danbury. "I have been doing it since I was a sophomore so this is my third year, and even though it only broadcasts in the hallway, I have a great time doing it."
Strecker and Lupica usually alternate who will play a song although sometimes they will play blocks of songs. From mid 90s music to classic rock or even show tunes, this show is filled with variety.
"I'm a fan of the mid 90's alternative type music so most of what I play is from bands that came out at that time and are still making records that not many people know about," said Lupica, senior, Warwick, R.I. "I've been doing the radio for four years and I love doing it because you can play whatever song, as long as it's appropriate."
The "Em and M Show" is only one of the student-run shows heard on WHRT. So, next time you're walking outside of Flik, take a minute to enjoy the music coming from 91.5, our campus radio station.
