Eddie Murphy is reemerging on the movie scene with his film Norbit, in theaters February 9. The movie is Murphy's first step onto the silver screen this year since last year's film Dreamgirls.

His new movie is set to touch on many aspects of comedy, education and love. The life lesson of thinking things through is the overall theme for the film and Murphy utilizes a satirical take to teach that lesson to the masses.

The movie tells the story of average individual Norbit, played by Murphy, and how his life has been nothing but misfortune since his birth. Norbit is a character that grows up an orphan and ventures into a loveless marriage in later life. The plot of the film centers on Norbit having second thoughts about the marriage and pursuing a woman he believes to be "the girl of his dreams".

Murphy has recruited a notable cast of contemporary supporting actors for this film. Thandie Newton, Eddie Griffin, Marlon Wayans, Mighty Rasta, Charlie Murphy, Terry Crews and Cuba Gooding Jr. will be assisting Murphy in this 2007 comeback.

Murphy is known for his live stand-up comedy, Saturday Night Live skits, and many roles as an actor.

Murphy hails from Long Island N.Y. As a former resident of the town of Roosevelt, he attended Nassau Community College up until 1980. It was in this year when he made the decision to become an actor. His first breakout role was in 1980 on Saturday Night Live. His caricatures and impersonations on SNL would be the catalyst for his notoriety, and movie career. This would open doors for him in the next two years where he starred in 48 hrs. beside Nick Nolte, and then Trading Places next to Dan Aykroyd. Murphy filmed 33 movies since then and is a recipient of Grammy, Screen Actors Guild and Golden Globe awards.

As a stand-up comedian, he recorded two full length comic routines with HBO, entitled Delirious, and Raw. He has also compiled several studio albums with segments from his stand-up routines and his SNL run. He is known best for his off-the-wall humor, profanity, and impersonations. Murphy even dabbled in music as well, with an album release in 1985 titled How Could it Be.

The multi-faceted entertainer returns to his comedic roots once again with this new film. Murphy's view on relationships and lessons learned are seen through the eyes of his exaggerated characters. His portrayal of the main character's struggles and epiphany is the basic formula for the film.
