Top Ten Albums of the Week

This past week artists of varying genres make the list of best selling pop albums of the week according to Entertainment Weekly's website.

Number one on the list is Pretty Ricky's album, "Late Night Special." This album made its debut on the chart taking over the number one spot.

"Wincing the Night Away" by The Shins is second on the list and has been on the chart for 11 weeks. The newly released album is The Shins fourth in the past ten years.

The album "Daughtry," by Daughtry moved from its number one spot last week to number three this week. The band has been on the chart for ten weeks and recently started a winter tour.

Hitting the chart for the first week in the number four spot is "2007 Grammy Nominees" by various artists, including Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, The Fray, John Mayer and Black Eyed Peas.

"I especially like the Grammy Nominees CD because I love having a variety of artists and songs to choose from," said Brianna Raalf, sophomore, East Northport, N.Y.

John Mellencamp's most recent CD, "Freedom's Road" is on the chart for the first week in the number five spot. According to www.fanfire.com, "Freedom's Road" is the first album in five years of original material by Mellencamp.

Moving down from the number two spot last week is the "Dreamgirls Soundtrack" by various artists. Beyonce Knowles, Eddie Murphy, and Jamie Foxx are among the well-known artists featured on the album.

Akon's album "Konvicted" dropped two spots from number five to number seven, and has been on the chart now for 11 weeks. This CD includes some of his more popular songs such as "I Wanna Love You" and "Smack That."

"I have always loved Akon's music and I think that "Konvicted" is his best album yet," said Bianca Zeh, sophomore, Red Hook, N.Y.

"The Evolution of Robin Thicke" by Robin Thicke moved up from the 16th spot to the eighth spot after being on the chart for 17 weeks. This album came out in October of 2006 and is his second solo CD.

"The Jump In! Soundtrack" by an assortment of artists from the Disney Channel falls to number nine from number three just last week.

Topping the list at number ten is Justin Timberlake's "FutureSex/LoveSounds" which, after its 20-week long run, makes it the longest running album on the top ten chart. The second solo album of Timberlake includes his hit songs, "Sexyback" and "My Love."

"I will be a hard core Justin Timberlake fan until the day I die," said Madeline Cox, sophomore, Monroe. "I think this album is his best one yet and I hope he keeps on making great music," said Cox.

This week's top ten chart had a large assortment of music from varying artists appealing to many of the SHU students interviewed.
