Sacred Heart University's women swim team won eight of the nine events while competing against St. Peter's College, Jersey City N.J, at the Wheeler Recreation Center in Bridgeport.

Leading the team was sophomore, Erin Bulvanoski from Oceanport, N.J. and freshman, Jordan Meyer from Torringto. Bulvanoski, who piloted her high school team to four Monmouth County Championships in high school, placed first in the 200-meter individual medley. She also kicked off a great start to the 200 meter freestyle relay.

Meyer ranked first in the 200 meter backstroke and strongly swam the middle leg of the relay, in which the Pioneers took finished first.

Freshman, Amanda Zullo from New Hyde Park, N.Y. blew her competition out of the water in the 100 meter freestyle. Junior, Laura Johnson from Red Hook, N.Y strongly dominated the 200 meter breastroke and gave The Heart another victory.

Also included in the winners circle for SHU was Junior, Catheryn Lozinak from Shelton. Lozinak placed first in the 800 meter freestyle and really dominated her event. Senior, Eileen Connor from Enfield earned valuable points for the Pioneers with a dominant win in the 50 meter freestyle.

With a score of 86-70, the Pioneers finished the dual meet portion of their schedule with a strong win and smiles on their faces.

"The meet was just the boost our team needed this past weekend," said Bulvanoski. "We really have been working harder than ever before."

"Everyone on my team stands out and that's just one of the things that make for a cohesive unit," said coach Richard Ludemann. "The motivation factor comes from within."

Swimming is a sport that takes great dedication and impressive diligence. Sacred Heart's young swimmers are putting in notable effort, waking up for 5:30 a.m. practices each and every morning.

"We do more before seven a.m. than most do all day." said Ludemann.

The ladies also jump back into the water for afternoon practices. Since the pool is off-campus, they are out of the eye of the student population. The girls endeavor quite a lot to keep up with their intense training and many times, it goes unnoticed. Their hard work comes strictly from the heart, and the girls have plenty of it.

"We are currently swimming at a new level," said Ludemann. "Our drive to excel is strong. I see nothing but good things in our near future."

The girl's will be using the next two weeks to train and prepare for the NEC Championship. The competition is being held in Landover, Md. on February 15-17.
