Sacred Heart University Track Team competed in the 15th Annual Lehigh Covert Classic. The men's team placed second, as the women's team placed fourth overall.

Both teams placed better than last year. The men's team placed higher in the tournament than last year. The men's team placed third last year and the women's team placed fourth. In speaking with Evan Lasher, a senior from Pleasant Valley, N.Y., he remarked on the team's ability to place second even though they are trying to work out a few kinks for the upcoming conference championship.

With a comeback performance in the works "I was planning on bringing my throws back up [at the meet on Saturday], with many warm up throws that would have won the meet," said Lasher.

"I was happy to be throwing that far again," said Lasher. He placed first in the event he was speaking to me about, the weight throw.

The Sacred Heart track team put up some impressive stats, finishing in the top three of many events. The men placed first in the 4x800 meter relay. Arman Dixon and Scott Giordano claimed the first and second spots, respectively, in the 60 meter dash. They also claimed first individually, Dixon in the long jump and Giordano in the 400 meter dash.

Jason Soule and Robert Boejes placed second and third, respectively, in the 500 meter dash. Evan Lasher and Michael Paradis took first and second place in weight throw. A few of the men placed third in their individual events. Luis German in the 800 meter dash, Alonzo Meek in the 60 meter hurdles, Jared Maher in the high jump, and Keith Rowe in the heptathlon.

The women did almost equally as well placing first in two events and second in three events. Brittany Dexter placed first in the high jump and Kathleen Henry placed second in the one mile run. The women claimed the top two spots in the weight throw by Marsha Locke and Christine Yakubec, and second and third in the indoor pentathlon by Melissa Kostan and Sarana Hyatt. They capped the meet by placing third in the 4x400 meter relay and Anne Duffy placed third in the 3000 meter run.

The Sacred Heart University track team will compete again on their road to the conference championship at the second annual Giengack Invitaional. The meet will begin on February 2, 2007 at Coxe Cage in New Haven.
