Students danced the night away at Back to Basics, which was truly a delightful affair.

Sacred Heart, you have officially brought it "Back to Basics."

After a change of venue and much anticipation, Sacred Heart kicked off the Christmas countdown with its highly anticipated annual Winter Formal on Dec. 1. Held at the Stamford Marriott, the dance's success exceeded the Class of 2008's expectations.

Throughout the campus on the following Saturday, the buzz going around included lots of praise about how great the event as a whole was.

Originally planned to take place at Fantasia, the formal was to the Marriott to be able to accommodate more students as a result of the high demand for more tickets.

There were over 900 people in attendance, and 350 over the age of 21, said Amanda DeMatteis, Class President of 2008, junior, Hamden.

"The DJ gave the crowd a plethora of music and played mostly requests throughout the evening," said DeMatteis. "The bar was packed and the area actually had to be extended out to provide a comfortable amount of space for those over 21."

The dance floor was full all night long allowing people to get their groove on with friends.

"The facility was definitely large enough and the space they gave us was more than enough. Don't get me wrong, the dance floor was hot, but there was definitely plenty of room to dance," said DeMatteis.

Kari Giordano, a junior from Yorktown Heights, N.Y., who attended the dance said the dance was a great time.

"The music was great and everyone was just having a good time. They did a great job planning it and turning it into a night to remember," said Giordano.

Everything during the night ran smoothly, no major problems took place, and everyone respected the facilities and the people around them.

"There were very few problems throughout the evening and with over 900 people in attendance that spoke very highly for the everyone in attendance," said DeMatteis.

Colleen Deegan, junior, Masspequa, N.Y. summarized the dance with, "It was a blast."

"The music that was being played was great and me and all of my friends just danced together the whole night," said Deegan.

Thanks to the Class of 2008 and Student Life, the event was a big success with everyone. So now it is time to hang up that formal dress, and put away your dancing shoes until next year's winter formal.
