It is vital for college students to have worked in an internship before graduation employers look for candidates that have previous work experience that relates to their future career path.
An internship is the prime example of work experience designed to help students find a career or full-time position in their desired field.
Taking advantage of SHU's Career Development Center is a great way to research and find certain internships that pertain to a paticular filed of study.
Many students in their junior and senior years have had internships or are currently working as part of their internship. Internships are available in almost every field of study.
Valerie Bellegarde, senior, East Meadow, N.Y., interned at FUSE TV for the "Steven's Untitled Rock Show", this past summer.
Bellegarde, a Media Studies major, was literally involved in the production of the television show.
In addition to the program, Bellegarde was able to view new music videos of some of her favorite bands and gave her personal opinion on a select few.
Bellegarde was also in charge of maintaining the show's Myspace.com account, plus she went to a few of the field shoots.
"One thing I didn't expect was for me to go from behind the scenes to in front of the camera," said Bellegarde.
"Throughout the summer, they were shooting a new show called 'The P.A.' and I happened to be in a few episodes," said Bellegarde.
"It was such a great experience and when I saw myself, I couldn't believe it," said Bellegarde.
Even though she was able to meet various celebrities while interning, Bellegarde took much more away form the experience.
"I learned a lot about what it takes to work on TV and also a lot about the music business," said Bellegarde.
"When you're looking for an internship, start with places that are useful to what you learn in school and can also help you learn a lot more," said Bellegarde.
