Issue date: 4/27/06 Section: News
Calling all students and future graduates. Ireland wants you.

As the end of the semester rapidly approaches, a plethora of ideas for summer plans plague the minds of many. The opportunity to live, work and travel across the land of Celtic lore and pride is not as outrageous as it seems.

A recent press release was sent by USIT to many graduating students at the University advertising the chance of a lifetime that seems too good to be true. Though a couple of words were misspelled in the release, the information is very interesting.

In the release, USIT is described as an international company that offers currently enrolled students and recent graduated students from a U.S. accredited University the ability to encounter foreign lands. Those who enroll have the chance to work, live and experience different cultures in nations, such as Ireland.

USIT's Work & Travel Ireland Program offers students and graduates the choice to spend up to four months in Ireland for a program fee of $399. On USIT'S website, www.workandtravelireland.org, it states that "you can work in any field, in full time paid employment, taking as many jobs as you like, from two days to four months."

"The USIT Ireland Program sounds like a very good alternative for students who did not get the chance to participate in study abroad," said Jacqueline Tambini, junior, Floral Park, N.Y.

The versatility in location and work in USIT's Ireland Program is their attractive catch for students looking to shake their summers up. But do not be fooled, the $399 fee is what you pay the company to find you a job, give you pre-departure support, free choice of arrival dates and a one night accommodation on arrival in Dublin, along with resource support in Ireland and orientation packages.

USIT also promises the fee will cover a work permit valid for four months in Ireland and a participant's handbook with information about life in Ireland and discount coupons. On the website, you can find an easy step-by-step application with endless links of information. The acceptance of students by USIT is based on personal information in a noncompetitive nature.
