"Right now our expectations for the rest of the season are to make the conference playoffs. We have some tough conference games in the next few weeks, Delaware being one of those. We know that we can beat anyone as long as we come to play, so we are just taking it one game at a time," Casey Kirch, a junior from Newtown, said.
"Delaware is a very solid team, but also very beatable. They have one of the top face-off guys in the country, so we need to do a good job at the face-off and get ground balls. Other than that, it's a game that's going to come down to who wants to win the most," he said.
The Pioneers currently have a conference record of 1-1 and an overall record of 1-7. Tied with Delaware in the conference standings, the Pioneers are aiming to surpass the Blue Hens and to climb up the conference ladder with a victory.
"Delaware has shown a lot this year; we're going to have to limit our mistakes if we want to play with them," captain Chad Clark, a senior from Syracuse, N.Y., said. "We also are going to need great wing play with these guys because they are looking excellent on face-offs."
We have a tough road ahead of us. We're going to have to play together as a team if we want to make it to the post season," Clark said.
"My team is all I have," Clark said. "I love these guys. All four years that I have been here, my team has always been there for me, and I wouldn't want it any other way.
"It's sad that this is my last season playing at this level. I can already see how much I'm going to miss everything," Clark said.
The game starts at 1 p.m. Saturday on Campus Field.
