Everyone has their list of qualities that a prospective partner must have. Some people have a list of a hundred things that their partner must have, and some only have one thing that they want in a partner. This is the top five must haves for prospective partners:
1. Compatibility. How similar or different are you? You want to date a person who has similar interests as you, but you don't want to have everything in common. That would be boring. Also you shouldn't have all differences either.
2. Attractiveness. Obviously in order to date someone you should be attracted to them. Your prospective partner may not be the most attractive person to other people, but as long as you find them attractive, no other opinions matter.
3. Intelligence. If you cannot hold an intelligent conversation about anything, your relationship will be frustrating and boring. By being able to communicate, this would be inhibiting the depth of your partnership.
4. Friendliness. There is no reason to date a person who is rude and inconsiderate. Pick a partner who is considerate to you and to others around you.
Obviously, everyone has different must haves on their list. Even if the partner you choose does not have all of the qualities you want, follow your heart, who knows what you might find!
