The Annual Career Fair took place last Wednesday, Feb. 15, where around one hundred and five employers of different fields got together to offer Sacred Heart students the opportunity for internships with their companies.
According to Dr. Leonard F. Delvecchio, around three hundred students visited this Spring Internship and Career Fair from one to four o'clock in the afternoon.
"A wide range of different companies for all majors were there," said Delvecchio. "At least two companies for each major," he concluded.
In the 2006 Career Fair Employer Listing, many companies and organizations of different fields were found; some companies such as Bridgeport Bluefish Baseball, E/The Environmental Magazine, Onward Healthcare, RMI Corporation or The Cambridge Group Ltd had one or more recruiters present at the fair who are Sacred Heart Alumni.
The Annual Spring Internship and Career Fair tried to offer students the possibility to work with professionals in the fieldwork. Students who are potential employees are given the chance to expand a factual job. Thus, they can acquire the necessary skills, aptitudes and attitudes to become a future employee.
Internships are the best way to create a good resume, but also the greatest approach to gain professional experience.
According to Delvecchio, "It's important that students do it."
Nowadays, all organizations and companies look for geared up and competent people who have experience in the professional field. Internships provide the knowledge and the practice that companies look for. As Delvecchio explained, students do internships because they are aware of its importance for their career path.
The opportunity to intern for an organization offers many different advantages to students, such as the possibility to experience various work fields and backgrounds, group effort and managing skills.
Therefore, students put into practice what they learn in class. They get to know their talents and their weaknesses, besides the chances to expand their career and to grow professionally and personally.
