Freshman forward Bear Trapp had three points, including two goals, and line mate Pierre-Luc O'Brien tallied two assists as Sacred Heart hockey defeated Bentley 4-2 Saturday night at the Milford Ice Pavilion.

Sacred Heart jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first period on a goal by Dave Grimson. Grimson picked up the puck on a net mouth scramble and put the rebound in the net. "The first goal was huge," said O'Brien. "It was good to get the lead."

Trapp tallied his first goal on a pass from O'Brien at the 19:10 mark of the first period, and Alexandre Parent made it 3-0 early in the second period on a great feed from Trapp.

"Our line really clicks well," Trapp said. "We all have good hockey sense and we always seem to find open spaces."

"We have great chemistry and we seem to know what each other is thinking," said O'Brien, who leads the team with 32 points.

Trapp got his second goal, his team leading 11th of the season, at the end of a power play on a great feed from Rocco Molinaro. The goal excited the 394 at the MIP and ended the night of Bentley's goalie, Ray Jean.

Jean was replaced by backup goalie Geordan Murphy.

Both of Bentley's goals came by freshman forward Jeff Guamer and both came on the power play. The first came bounced off of the skate of a Pioneers' defenseman.

"The first goal was a bad bounce, and the second goal we left a guy open, but our penalty kill has been a strength of our team all season," coach Shaun Hannah said.

The game was a physical one, as there were several big body checks, and there were five penalties for hitting after the whistle. "That is the style that Bentley likes to play," Trapp said. "They like to be physical and there were quite a few coincidental penalties because of it."

Junior goalie Jason Smith made 23 saves to gain his 12th win of the season.

"He really is consistent back there," O'Brien said. "He is the best goalie in the conference and gives our team a great chance to win every night."
