The annual SHU Health Expo had a great turnout on Wednesday, April 6 as many students and faculty strolled into the University Commons to explore the free information, screenings, and giveaways. Over 100 people benefited from the wealth of information that was provided on health issues relevant to the campus community presented by local vendors, campus staff, and health professional students. Topics included eating disorders, back pack safety, proper footwear, alcohol awareness, smoking awareness, and fast food. There were also free screenings for blood pressure, glucose, and cholesterol provided by the SHU Nursing students as well as body fat assessment performed by Athletic Training students. Many health organizations came with information tables to present facts on a variety of important health subjects such as domestic violence, sexual abuse, dental health, Teen Smoke Stoppers, and Hopeline Women's Resource Center. The event was truly a success as expressed by the many attendees who were able to take advantage of the occasion. Look for details on next year's SHU Health Expo in April 2006 to learn about having a healthier lifestyle and improving your wellbeing!
