Summer is nearing and with only weeks left of classes our Christmas money is either running low or long gone. While we may have outgrown lemonade stands, here are a couple of other ways to become an entrepreneur for the summer.
Little girls' tea parties
Grab some friends and make a party business. Little girls love tea parties and getting dressed up so put them together and make some cash. Collect old clothes from relatives: old dance costumes, wedding dresses, bridesmaid's dresses, etc. as well as accessories: hats, boas, fans, beads, costume jewelry, umbrellas, etc. Don't worry about the size of the clothes you can pin them with safety pins. Pick up some cute old china at a tag sale and a couple of old Victorian bears. Design flyers and pass them around your neighborhood. The best form of publicity is word of mouth; all you need is one party to get your business going. At the party, spread out the clothes and accessories and let the girls go crazy. After they dress up you can paint their nails, play "Hide the Victorian bear," have some sort of arts and crafts and of course have tea in the china you brought. Ask the parents if they want to provide the cake or if you can bring your own. Have fun making the cake and try to decorate it to fit the party, i.e. make the cake in the shape of a teacup. The kids will have a blast playing dress up and you can either charge per child or have a flat rate. Parents will love it if you can cover as much as you can: plates, cups, napkins, Band-Aids, silverware, cake, decorations, etc. The less they have to worry about, the more they'll love the idea.
Sports tutoring
Make flyers listing different sports available. This idea can serve as a tutoring lesson as well as a summer camp. Gathering up a couple of friends will do great for this. You and your friends can help youngsters with their skills while you get to hang out with your friends all day. Whatever your sport is, make sure you get friends who have a variety of sports under their belts so the kids will have a couple of choices. You can hold this either in your backyard if it's big enough or the town park. Again you can charge by person or you can charge a flat rate per hour. Have the kids provide their own lunches and all you will have to provide is the drinks.
Have fun this summer and be creative!
