Flip flops, tank tops, and short shorts. While many think of summer when they hear these items, others are getting a head start on summer fashion this spring. (28)
Even though there have been sunny skies for the past week, summer is at least two months away. So are Sacred Heart students getting dressed for summer a bit too early?
"I think as soon as Spring hits and if the weather is nice enough to wear flip flops and not freeze your toes off then its okay to start wearing them," Courtney Barbato, junior, Wanaque NJ.
Veronica Genao, a sophomore from Queens NY, shares Barbato's sentiments.
"When it starts to get warm on a regular basis it's ok to start taking out your spring and summer clothes."
Joe Rea, a junior from Warwick, RI has his own motto about summer fashion.
"Hey, if it is warm enough, go for it."
While the weather seems to be non stop sun not everyone at Sacred Heart is ready to "go for it" and break out their spring and summer wardrobe.
"I think it is a little too soon to be wearing summer clothes so early. I think it is so funny when girls are walking around in mini skirts and tube tops around campus. They get annoyed that it's breezy out and get cold easily. It's their own fault, they are wearing too little of clothes," Rory Colford, sophomore, West Long Branch, NJ.
Maybe it's not when people are wearing their summer clothes but what they are wearing. More specifically what they are wearing to class and around campus.
"It's one thing to wear summer clothes that are somewhat revealing, like skirts, shorts, and tank tops. However it's different to wear bikinis in the middle of a school setting or something overly revealing to class. It might be disrespectful to the professors or others," said Genao.
"I don't think class has to be a fashion show. Girls can't be too comfortable sitting in class, having to worry about whether their thong is showing or having to keep pulling their tube tops up so nothing pops out," Colford.
While what you wear is completely up to you, there are some options for those who wish to embrace the in between period of spring and summer.
For instance, instead of wearing shorts or mini skirts maybe try longer flowy skirts, cuffing your jeans, or a light jacket. That way you look springy but can still stay warm.
If that isn't your style you can always follow the upcoming spring and summer trends, like Gauchos, as mentioned in our February 24 issue.
In the end what you wear is up to you. Spring and summer isn't about stressing over outfits, it's about enjoying what the warmer weather has to offer.
