Student Government held its yearly elections last week. All members of the Student Senate and class boards who wished to hold their positions during the 2005-2006 academic year were required to run again. At the end of this semester, Todd Dixon, the current VP of Senate will be graduating, and Kurt McLoud, current Senator for the class of 2006, will be the new VP of Senate. Dave Macala, Student Government President will also be graduating, and Jim Daly, current Senator for the class of 2007, will be taking his place. Daly and McLoud will be sworn into their positions at the Installation Ceremony on April 24, at 6 p.m. Congratulations to both Kurt and Jim! In addition to Daly and McLoud's induction, all other students who were elected into office will also be welcomed into Student Government and sworn into office at this dinner.
All clubs and organizations were asked to nominate a king and queen to participate in the application process of Greek Week's king and queen. All nominated individuals will be considered through their application answers for the winning king or queen spot. One king and queen will be picked along with two runner up pairs. Senate's king and queen this year are Danae Kline and Todd Dixon, both from the class of 2005. Dixon will escort Kline across the stage on Greek Life's skit night along with all the other kings and queens.
Student Senate is having a group outing on April 24. Senator Erin Maurer is chairing an AIDS Walk, which is taking place on campus, and the Senate voted to support the cause. All students, faculty, and staff are invited to take part in the walk, whether to walk or to sponsor a walker. Registration for the walk begins at 9 a.m. and the walk begins at 10 a.m. All walkers will be given an AIDS WALK 2005 T-shirt at the time of registration. Following the walk, there will also be a barbeque to thank all of the participants for supporting such a great cause. There will be people from all over Connecticut traveling to participate in this event. All the proceeds from the walk go to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and support the studies to find a cure. If anyone is interested in participating in this event or would like to learn more about it, email Erin at maurere@sacredheart.edu.
