Congratulations are in order for several Sacred Heart University students that will be honored at a special dinner for the 16th annual discovery and scholarship dinner on April 23.
The Discovery Award at Sacred Heart University is privileged to invite the community to recognize and celebrate the gifts of caring and accomplished people.
This event will take place on the University's campus, at William H. Pitt Health & Recreation Center where it will be transformed into a starry, starry night for this honorable event.
More than 400 people are expected to attend this black-tie affair, which will raise funds for student scholarships. Discovery Awards will be presented to People's Bank Chairman, President & CEO John A. Klein (Easton, Conn.) and Mario Gabelli (Greenwich, Conn.), Chairman, CEO & CIO of Gabelli Asset Management. Bridgeport's Kolbe-Cathedral High School Principal Jo-Anne Jakab (Bridgeport, Conn.) will receive the Curtis Medal of Honor.
The event begins with a reception and silent auction at 5:45 p.m, consisting of items including jewelry and furs from Harpers of Fairfield, a Harley Davidson motorcycle, and a wide assortment of other gifts including weekend get-aways, art, theatre tickets and restaurant gift certificates.
Festivities will continue with the awards ceremony, gourmet dinner, and dancing to the music of The Cartells.
Fashion Designer Joseph Abboud (Bedford, N.Y.) will be Master of Ceremonies for the evening. Along with the event chairs, are Bill Mitchell, vice chairman of Mitchells of Westport and Richards of Greenwich; Linda McMahon, CEO of World Wresting Entertainment; and Mark E. Freitas, President & CEO of Frank Crystal & Company.
Sponsorships begin at $1,500, and individual tickets are $250. All proceeds will benefit the University's Scholarship Fund.
"It sounds like it might be fun to go there, I never knew that we had this event going on at Sacred Heart University!" said Victoria Di Paolo, a sophomore from Staten Island NY.
