Lucasz Glinka, (sophomore, Bridgeport) President of the International Club, explained, "The money that we collected will be going to the Tsunami Relief Foundation to help out the people of the countries that were hit by the tsunami in Asia. When trying to figure out which organization to help out this year with the money from the Fashion Show, we concluded that the tsunami was the biggest tragedy that has happened recently. A lot of people died and they seem to be the ones who need the most help. Every little bit helps. Between 40 and 80 people attended the show and we raised about $300 dollars for the Tsunami Relief Foundation."
The entrance ticket for the Fashion Show was $3 for SHU students and $5 for non-students.
The theme of this year's show was "Asian Nights," which according to Glinka went along with the fact that the tsunami happened in Asia by "a surprising coincidence" since the theme was chosen by the members of the International Club from a list of other theme ideas such as Hawaiian or Caribbean. Asian props such as umbrellas painted with Asian letters decorated the modeling runway stage.
The Fashion Show was divided into sections such as Swim, Casual, Evening, Business, Bridal, and International Wear. The modeling crew consisted of Mark Maleri, Ian Straughter, Michael Philbin, Afrim Mustafa, Cory Abbate, Inara Coleman, Cassandra M. Andrade, Gina Baldi, Jennifer Spinelli, Ashley Greco, Erika Schneider, Aimee Franko, Aferdita Mustafa, Merlin Perez, Elona Shape, Wai Yin Cheng (Queenie), and Aida Gusic.
Talbot's, Casual Corner, After Hours, and Joan's Bridals were the stores who allowed the models to borrow their clothes for the night for such a good cause. The rest of the outfits belonged to the models themselves.
When asked how she felt about modeling at the show before and after the event, Elona Shape (freshman, Bridgeport), Vice President of the International Club replied, "Before the show, I was very excited, nervous, and worried about how I was going to look on stage. After the show, I felt relieved that it was over and proud of myself and of everyone else. But the most important reason why I participated and helped organize the Fashion Show is the fact that it would benefit tsunami victims."
